Solutions for Cutting Small Items and Accessories

SHIMA SEIKI’s new P-CAM100C, P-CAM120C, P-CAM160C, and P-CAM180C computerized cutting machines (NC cutting machines) are effective replacements for band knife cutting machines, ideal for cutting sheeting and other sample fabrics, as well as small items such as shoes and handbags. With the optional projector, accurate pattern-matching as well as cutting after fusing of interlining material is possible. The compact and easy-to-use P-CAM allows cutting that is normally jobbed-out, to be performed right where the pattern is made, for significant time savings. Cutting method can be selected from reciprocating knife, ultrasonic knife and conventional drag knife, allowing cutting of a wide range of materials from container bags to industrial materials such as CFRP or GFRP. Cutting depth and height are automatically adjusted to aid in longevity of the blade. Furthermore various measures are taken in consideration of the type of materials to be cut on this machine, such as dust prevention and auto knife cleaning. Double-cut prevention function and special cutting brushes are standard, as is cutting mat laydown. Cutting length begins at a compact 900mm, while the cutting area can be customized for long items. By using the optional barcode scanner, operation accuracy and efficiency is increased significantly by preventing mistakes upon pattern data input. It is also possible for P-CAM to double as a cutting plotter with its ability to cut cardboard as well as its pen attachment, maximizing overall space-effiency. Together with SHIMA SEIKI’s SDS-ONE APEX3 CAD system, P-CAM100C, P-CAM120C, P-CAM160C, and P-CAM180C provide smooth and efficient computer-to-cutting for a variety of industries from automotive and aerospace to industrial materials.

Cutting is selectable among drag knife, reciprocating knife and ultrasonic knife. The drag knife can be replaced easily as a unit. Furthermore the reciprocating knife utilizes automatic knife sharpening for higher accuracy in cutting. By changing the cutting position, life expectancy can be extended for the knife (except reciprocating knife).

With the brush-type cutting table, strong and effective suction can be applied across the entire material for stable cutting. Brushes have a long wear-life, and should the need arise they be exchanged piece-by-piece for easy maintenance.

A large touch-sensitive LCD monitor is used for the operation screen. The menu is designed for easy operation even for beginners. In addition to English and Japanese menus, a Chinese menu is also available for supporting current trends in global sourcing.

Emergency stop buttons are located at all 4 corners of the machine, and safety devices such as a pause button and safety bar are fitted on the Y-beam to ensure safe operation.

In order to maximize P-CAM's capabilities in the cutting room, P-EDITOR enables editing of CAD data in various formats, including those created with CAD systems other than Shima Seiki's SDS-ONE APEX. For example, special points such as Start Point, Reversal Point and Loop Cutting Point can be set. Cutting speed can also be specified for each part. Data for notch, drilling, and marking can be input, modified and deleted as well. In this way, P-EDITOR allows P-CAM to perform precise cutting of data which were previously limited in data compatibility.

Pattern images are projected onto the fabric based on cutting data for effective control over parts positioning, and where necessary, re-positioning. Any fabric skew is compensated when cutting, making it easy to perform pattern matching. It is also possible to reposition the patterns to avoid wrinkles and other flaws in the material. It can also be used to recut smaller parts out of large rough parts in multi-ply applications.

By using bar codes and QR codes, selection of parts can be performed instantly using a scanner. Eliminating manual selection ensures quality control by lowering the possibility for human error.
