SOLUTIONS FOR CUTTING ROLLS OF INDUSTRIAL MATERIALS

SHIMA SEIKI’s new P-CAM130C, P-CAM160C, and P-CAM180C NC cutting machine (computerized cutting machine) is ideal for cutting rolls of Carbon- and Glass-Fiber Reinforced Plastic (CFRP and GFRP) pre-impregnated composites (prepregs). In addition to conventional drag knife and reciprocating knife, ultrasonic knife can also be selected, allowing cutting of a wide range of materials such as rubber, leather, vinyl, thermoplastics, glass fiber, adhesive materials and water-repellent material up to 20mm in thickness and in multi-ply applications. Cutting depth and height are automatically adjusted to aid in longevity of the blade. Furthermore various measures are taken in consideration of the type of materials to be cut on this machine, such as dust prevention, auto knife cleaning and double-cut prevention function. A conveyor system with special cutting brushes is used for the cutting table, allowing highly efficient production while delivering roll material. Unrolling device, pickup table and automatic labeling device are available as options. By using the optional barcode scanner, operation accuracy and efficiency is increased significantly by preventing mistakes upon pattern data input. Machine installation can be performed in one-piece or in separate sections for smaller spaces. Together with SHIMA SEIKI’s SDS-ONE APEX3 CAD system, P-CAM130C, P-CAM160C, and P-CAM180C provides smooth and efficient computer-to-cutting for a variety of industries from automotive and aerospace to industrial materials.

Cutting is selectable among drag knife, reciprocating knife and ultrasonic knife. The drag knife can be replaced easily as a unit. Furthermore the reciprocating knife utilizes automatic knife sharpening for higher accuracy in cutting. By changing the cutting position, life expectancy can be extended for the knife (except reciprocating knife).

Fabric thickness is detected automatically upon suction, thereby controlling optimum head height for increased cutting accuracy and efficiency.

When cutting along a common pattern line that is shared among two patterns that are next to each other, P-CAM can cut the line with a single cut. By avoiding repeated cutting, the risk of cutting errors is reduced, and efficient production can be achieved. Moreover, by applying this process automatically, leadtime for editing data can be reduced.

On P-CAM130C/160C/180C a special labeling head patterns that are next to each other and share a common pattern line, P-CAM can cut the line with a single cut for improved accuracy and efficiency. Moreover, by applying this process automatically, leadtime for editing data can be reduced.

For P-CAM130C/160C/180C, a conveyor masking sheet is used when cutting narrow roll materials, minimizing the use of vinyl sheet and reducing associated costs.

A large touch-sensitive LCD monitor is used for the operation screen. The menu is designed for easy operation even for beginners. In addition to English and Japanese menus, a Chinese menu is also available for supporting current trends in global sourcing.

With the brush-type cutting table, strong and effective suction can be applied across the entire material for stable cutting. Brushes have a long wear-life, and should the need arise they be exchanged piece-by-piece for easy maintenance.

Emergency stop buttons are located at all 4 corners of the machine, and safety devices such as a pause button and safety bar are fitted on the Y-beam to ensure safe operation.

Pattern images are projected onto the fabric based on cutting data for effective control over parts positioning, and where necessary, re-positioning. When cutting border, striped or checkered fabrics, it is possible to check for fabric skew. When cutting single-ply fabrics and other materials, it is also possible to reposition the patterns to avoid wrinkles and other flaws in the material. It can also be used to recut smaller parts out of large rough parts in multi-ply applications.

By using bar codes and QR codes, selection of parts can be performed instantly using a scanner. Eliminating manual selection ensures quality control by lowering the possibility for human error.

In order for our customers to maximize their use of P-CAM's efficiency and productivity, we offer P-EDITOR software that can read and edit cutting data created on third-party CAD systems. For example, special points on P-CAM (start, reverse, etc.) can now be set. Also, such commands as speed change per part, notch, drill and marking data can be input, edited and removed. Even cutting parameters whose use was previously limited can now be utilized for high-precision cutting.
